<p>PURPOSE:To detect a preceding vehicle accurately without being influenced by a guidance plate or the like and to find a distance between two vehicles by installing a vehicle discrimination means which extracts data indicating a vehicle out of angle data and distance data and a vehicular gap output means which discriminates an object mark on the running traffic lane of an own vehicle and which outputs its distance. CONSTITUTION:Electromagnetic waves are swept to the right and left directions and sent out, and a distance up to a reflecting object is found on the basis of reflected waves at every sweep angle. When a plurality of reflected waves exist at the same sweep angle, distances can be found regarding the respective waves. Out of the distances which have been detected, data indicating a vehicle is extracted by a vehicle discrimination means 7. In addition, a vehicular gap output means 9 discriminates a vehicle which is situated on the running traffic lane of an own vehicle, and its distance is judged to be a vehicular distance. Even when a fan beam laser whose up-and-down spreading angle is large is used, the vehicle is discriminated by the vehicle discrimination means 7 even when it is subjected to reflected waves from a guidance plate or the like, and the vehicular distance up to a preceding vehicle can be obtained accurately.</p> |
