846,619. Presses for separating liquids from solids. BRITISH CERAMIC RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. May 12, 1959 [May 27, 1958], No. 16757/58. Class 46. A screw 20 axially movable in a perforate barrel 10 is rotated by pins 26 on an axiallyfixed driving shaft 29, the screw being urged to the right by pressure pads 34 bearing against the driven component 25 secured to the screw. The pads 34 are hinged to arms 33 upstanding from a lever 30 pivoted at 31, the lower end of the lever being spring-loaded or counterweighted to the left. The size of the opening between nose 22 on the screw and conical seating 23 of die 17 is thus governed by backpressure in the extrusion chamber 16. Axial loading of the screw may alternatively be by thrust bearing and hydraulic or pneumatic pressure. Material (e.g. clay slip) to be extruded is fed in at 35 at constant pressure. |
