PURPOSE: To reduce the hardware cost by providing a common controller for an ABS system and an occupant protection system against vehicle collisions, etc.; the controller redundantly processes sensor signals in two parallel channels and monitors through a common perfect monitor. CONSTITUTION: A safety apparatus has an anti-lock and/or drive slip control system and an occupant protection system for actuating an occupant protector in the event of a great vehicle deceleration and comprises a controller common to the two systems. Based on output signals from wheel speed sensors and vehicle deceleration sensor, actuators of each system are controlled. In the controller, a wheel revolution number signal is inputted to an MPU 15 through an input amplifier 11, a vehicle deceleration signal is inputted to a safety circuit 17 through an input circuit 12, and the MPU 15 and the MPU 16 connected to an input circuit 14 for diagnosis process measured signals redundantly in time-sharing multiplex and control the respective actuators through output amplifiers 18, 19 according to the processing result.
