The safety switch has a housing (1) enclosing the switch mechanism (13) which cooperates with an operator (10) released via a key (15) inserted in the housing and displaced by the key, to allow the switch operation. The key is attached to a protective guard and fits into a slot (5) in the housing in which the operator is located together with a series of transverse pins. The ins (6) are used to lock at least part of the operator, the key having a corresp. coded pattern, as a number of pin receiving openings, for releasing the operator.
