The operating system uses magnetically-controlled valves, operated in a required fuel injection sequence, to supply fuel to injection jets associated with respective cylinders (1-4) of an IC engine (11). Pressure in the high pressure fuel supply line (14) is detected via a pressure sensor (20) to maintain the required pressure level, via an electronic regulation controller (19). The pressure sensor signal can be used for controlling one of the fuel injection jets (15-18), upon failure of the normal synchronisation pulses, to maintain emergency running of the engine. USE/ADVANTAGE - Simple provision of emergency engine operating mode.
