The print head includes four groups of seven optical fibres (11) each configured such that the seven fibres are located at the centre and periphery of a regular hexagon and each group corresponds to a line. The fibres are maintained accurately in these positions by terminating fittings (13, 15, 18). An electrically controlled light source sends light signals along each fibre in a group as required and a step by step motor advances the groups of fibres horizontally such that characters are formed by successive vertical lines of dots or spaces. The printing head includes a mechanism to open a shutter in the radiographic cassette to be marked. ADVANTAGE - Printing head is compact and economical.
