Carding machinery

Machinery to open, clean and card fibrous material, consists of a feed mechanism, an opening roller, and one or more carding swifts with vacuum doffer roller, carding swifts and flats. A cover is fitted between the feed to the opening roller and the carding swift, which has a control plate to cover the airflow grid. The taker-in is supplied with a lap of fibre from a hopper. The fibres are opened by the roller and pressed to the sawtooth clothing of the carding swift which revolves anti-clockwise. The presser bar direct the material to the flat which has a blade to cut away trash which is sepd. by centrifugal force, and drops into the trash can. The perforated vacuum drum also has sawtooth cover to accept the fibre, being driven at a higher speed. A fixed baffle on the interior, concentrates the action between the carding swift and the drum. A cover is fitted between the trough and a section over the drum. There is air extrn. and perforations in the plate. The perforation or grid has a cover-plate manipulated from the sides, to open and close, thus allowing short fibres to be extracted as required in the region.
