The vehicle door pivots around a horizontal axis, carrying the lateral anchorage (18) for a chest safety belt (42). The belt anchorage is fixed on top of a small post (7), which is retractable between the door skins (5,6), to avoid post contact, whilst opening the door. Post retraction gear (8,9,10) is housed within the door. The post may be operated by a motorised (8) screw and nut (9,10) which displace it vertically in a guide (15), fixed to the lower door edge. The post may be locked in position. USE/ADVANTAGE - Car doors without glass frames, enabling use of chest and lap seat belts, improving safety. Avoids post flexing.
