A foam-forming reaction mixt. for use in the wet cleaning of gases, esp. exhaust or five gases, comprises a mixt. of (i) one or more anionic and/or nonionic substances; (ii) an electrolyte; and (iii) water. Pref. the mixt. can also contain phosphonate and/or sulphate-contg. cpds. (e.g. sequestrants), amine cpds. vegetable fatty acids; and/or enzymes, alcohols, dyes, and/or perfumes. ADVANTAGE - Exhaust gases can be cleaned at up to 98% of the theoretical value, with the resulting liq. slurry or dried residue being sent to a waste disposal or recycling system.
