Printing cover 15, 132 adapted for use with a magnetic printing cylinder 12, 134, which includes an opening 16, 136 extending longitudinally along the outer surface thereof. The printing cover 15, 132 includes a plurality of layers 14, 142 with a magnetic support layer 20, 144 which adheres magnetically to the printing cylinder 12, 134. The printing cover 15, 132 is positioned on the printing cylinder 12, 134 so that one of its ends is folded over an edge 11, 141 and towards the inside of the opening 16, 136. The opposite end of the printing cover 15, 132 is mounted substantially adjacent to the opposite edge 13, 143 of the opening, 16, 136. A tensioning roll 150, or similar device, to which the printing cover 132 may be connected, may be arranged in the opening 136 in order more firmly to fasten the printing cover 132 to the printing cylinder 134. The invention also relates to a printing apparatus 10 which includes a magnetic printing cylinder 12, 134, a printing cover 15, 132 and means for aligning the said printing cover 15, 132 on the said printing cylinder 12, 134.
