The paddle blades (11) are mounted onto the links (13) of a pair of chains which run on pairs (1,3) of toothed wheels. When the sprocket (1) turns in the direction (18), the lower blades are pushed through the water to produce a reaction (16) which moves the assembly towards the letter (A) on the drawing. Plates (15) attached to the blades maintain the blades at right angles to the chains, against the thrust of the water. The sprocket wheels have teeth engaging with the links of the chain, and recesses (6) to accept the bases of the blades. The whole assembly is made of non-corroding materials, or is treated against corrosion. ADVANTAGE - The assembly saves height compared with a conventional paddle wheel, and allows the blades to work effectively for a greater part of each complete cycle as compared with a conventional paddle wheel.
