PURPOSE:To actuate an engine brake without depending on manual operation of a driver so as to enhance drive performance by detecting no-load running of an engine, and controlling an automatic transmission so that it comes to such a condition as the engine brake effects by means of fastening an overrun clutch. CONSTITUTION:An automatic transmission 2 is provided with a one-way clutch OWC allowing power transmission only from an engine 1 to the output side, and an overrun clutch OR/C provided in parallel with the one-way clutch OWC, and actuates an engine brake by operating an engine brake solenoid 8 by a controller 9 so that the overrun clutch OR/C is fastened. In this case, when an ON-signal is inputted to the controller 9 from an idle switch 11 serving as an engine no-load running detecting means, which detects a release of an accelerator pedal 3 to output the ON-signal, the engine brake solenoid 8 is operated so that the engine brake is actuated by means of fastening of the overrun clutch OR/C. |
