PURPOSE:To efficiently produce homogeneous activated carbon material of good quality and to largely improve heat efficiency by using part of heating and activating gas supplied to activate a carbon material, recovering the gas as combusting gas, using the rest of the gas to heat a temp. rising and activating zone, and then discharging the gas. CONSTITUTION:The activated carbon material is produced by the following method. A carbon material 13 to be activated is supplied from the upper part of a multitube vertical activator furnace 1 and divided in a dividing zone 3 into tubes 4. The carbon material is passed through a temp. rising and activating zone 5 where the material is heated by the waste activating gas. Then the material is sent to a lower temp. rising and activating zone 5, where the material is further heated by the heating gas supplied to the outside of the tubes 4 and activated by the activating gas 16 which rises. Then the material is discharged through the bottom to the outside of the furnace 1. The activating and heating gas 16 supplied through the side of the furnace 1 is partly introduced as an activating gas through the bottom of the temp. rising and activating zone 5 into the tube where the gas activates the carbon material 13. Then the gas is recovered as combusting gas through a gas passage 12. The rest of the gas is used as heating gas to heat the temp. rising and activating zone 5 from the outside of the tubes to activate the carbon material 13. |
