PURPOSE:To detect the degree of the deterioration of a packing without disassembling a tank. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic wave is emitted in the interior of a tank 1 by an ultrasonic transmitter 7. Whereupon, the ultrasonic wave leaks out from the arranged part of a packing 6 provided on the side surface of the tank 1 to the outside. When the deterioration of the packing 6 is promoted, the leakage intensity of this ultrasonic wave is increased according to this deterioration. There, an ultrasonic sensor 9 is moved in such a way as to go around the arranged part of the packing 6 one time and detects the intensity of the ultrasonic wave, which leaks out from each part of the packing 6. If the packing 6 is deteriorated even partially, the sensor 9 detects an ultraviolet wave of an intensity to respond to the degree of the deterioration of the packing at the deteriorated part of the packing 6. As a result, the degree of the deterioration of the packing 6 can be judged by the intensity of the detected ultrasonic wave. |
