A rotary valve such as a spherical plug, plug or butterfly valve comprises a housing having bonnets 138, 140, Fig. 3, on which the valve member is journalled. The rotatable valve member 142 has a spindle 144 extending through the bonnet 138 and a bore 172 which receives a part 170 of bonnet 140. Sealing is provided by rings 177, 199, Fig. 4, loaded by springs 183, 197, and carrying 0-rings 179, 181 and 195, 192. Passages are provided for venting the outlet side of the seals. Seating rings are also provided, each comprising an inner seal ring 202 and an outer seal ring 200 loaded by springs 207. An O-ring 204 is provided between the working surfaces and an 0-ring 214 in an annular space between the ring and body. The mean diameter of the ring 204 is less than the outer diameter and larger than the inner diameter of ring 214 whereby the force due to fluid pressure loads the ring towards the valve member. The body may be formed as three parts 132, 134, 136 or the parts 132, 134 may be integral. The valve closure may be assembled by insertion through the opening on removal of part 136. |
