A radial tyre having a tread of cap/base structure, which tread has a thickness of not more than 6mm, characterised by the base tread comprising a rubber composition of 16 to 30 parts by weight of short fibres and 30 to 60 parts by weight of carbon black having an iodine adsorption amount of 60 to 130mg/g, or a rubber composition of 10 to 30 parts by weight of short fibres and 5 to 30 parts by weight of carbon black. The short fibres in the base tread may be oriented in either the peripheral or radial direction of the tyre. The tyre has a low rolling resistance and is excellent in both steering stability and ride comfort. <IMAGE> |
