PURPOSE:To achieve a motor driven variable resistor having a small width dimension, and a small mounting space in a printed wiring board. CONSTITUTION:When the rotation of a motor 32 is decelerated by two sets of worms and worm wheels 33, 34 and 37, the rotating shafts of the first worm wheel 34 and the second worm 37 are two independent parallel shafts D-D' and E-E', and the rotation is transmitted between the two shafts by means of external spur gears 35 and 36 provided integrally with the first worm wheel 34 and the second worm 37. By this, the two sets of worms and wheels 34, 37 and the interconnecting surface of 37 are shifted to align the rotating shaft 32A of the motor and the rotating and operating shaft 24 of the variable resistor portion, whereby the width dimension of a motor driven variable resistor is decreased to the outer diameter of the motor or the width dimension of the rotary operation type variable resistor.
