摘要 <p>Catalytic oxidn. of organic substances in waste water is effected by reaction with H2O2 in the presence of an insol. cupric cpd. (I) and air. Pref. (I) is CuO and is used in the form of: a solid (Ia) produced by hydrolysing CuCl2 and calcining the prod. at 500 deg.C; or a solid (Ib) produced by impregnating a zeolite or bentonite support with a cupric salt soln. and heating at 120-130 deg.C to form oligomeric CuO. Catalysts (Ib) have a Cu content of 0.15-0.25 mmole/g. Oxidn. is effected at 20-65 (esp. 45-62) deg.C in the presence of 0.1-5 (esp. 0.5-2.5) g/l (Ia) or 0.1-10 (esp. 0.5-5) g/l (Ib). The H2O2 concn. corresponds to 0.125 mmole per litre of waste water with a total organic carbon (TOC) content of 1000 ppm. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process may be used to treat industrial waste waters, e.g. from the mfr. of nitroxylene. Organic contaminants are converted mainly to CO2 without formation of solid residues. (I) is easily sepd. and may be re-used repeatedly. Sub-stoichiometric amts. of H2O2 may be used.</p>
