The press tool for punching holes includes a bottom (8), a top (1), a cheek (2) with a bore (5) for holding a workpiece (w) against the bottom, a punch (7) with a protruding tip (7d) located coaxially over a bore (9), and an element (1a) for driving the punch to produce a hole in the workpiece. A tubular elastic element (6) is inserted into the bore (5) to take up the punch (7) driven in by an applied force, so that this element comes to rest between the punch and the inner wall of the bore. The protruding tip (7d) produces in the workpiece a dent which, as a consequence of its interaction with the elastic resistance of the element (6), optimally positions the punch for the subsequent punching operation. The tubular elastic element (6) has longitudinal grooves in its outer surface. Alternatively, the grooves in the outer surface of this element run circumferentially. The protruding tip (7) can have a variety of shapes (spherical, conical etc.). USE/ADVANTAGE - In punching machines. Tool produces high-quality work. The labour and time required for its mfr. and assembly are reduced together with its maintenance costs.
