PURPOSE:To suppress the suction of ink from a head cartridge to the smallest possible quantity when ink sucking operation is executed in order to remove the ink with which the nozzle is clogged. CONSTITUTION:The cap 7 provided to a head cartridge 6 in a freely detachable manner and hermetically closing and surrounding a nozzle part at the time of mounting, a negative pressure generator 11 for generating negative pressure for sucking ink, the conduit 8 for transmitting the negative pressure generated by the negative pressure generator to the cap, the ink detector 10 provided on the way of the conduit to detect the presence of the ink passing through the conduit and a control part 12 for controlling the driving of the negative pressure generator when the cap is mounted on the head cartridge and stopping the driving of the negative pressure generator when the ink passing through the conduit is detected by the ink detector are provided. |
