PURPOSE: To transmit television signals through a signal optical waveguide by lowering a frequency band width to <=1 octave by dividing the full frequency band and performing single side-band modulation. CONSTITUTION: Wide-band frequency division multiplex signals are inputted to a point A, and two different band-pass filters B1 and B2 filter specific frequency ranges. Namely, a wide frequency band is divided into two auxiliary bands and optical transmitters 4 and 5 convert the signals into optical signals by making the width narrower than one octave, on the basis of the lowest frequency. Then a modulator 10 converts the signals into signals of a higher transmission frequency band, having a width narrower than one octave for single side-band amplitude modulation. The optical transmitters 4 and 5 form optical signals through the luminance modulation of a laser, and a multiplexer 6 combines the optical signals with optical wavelength multiplex signals. The multiplex signals can be transmitted to an optical receiving unit through a single optical waveguide. |
