PURPOSE:To provide a driving method reducing a cost in a drive circuit lower than usual methods when a gas discharge display device is driven by a pulse memory system. CONSTITUTION:A cathode side discharge maintaining pulse PSK with voltage VSK is impressed to a cathode at a period T sufficient for maintaining discharge. An anode side discharge maintaining pulse PSA with voltage VSA is impressed to an anode at the same phase as the cathode side discharge maintaining pulse. The discharge is generated so that immediately before the cathode discharge maintaining pulse PSK is impressed, a cathode side write pulse PK with voltage VSK is impressed further, and a time before the cathode becomes potential VSK is prolonged, and an anode side write pulse PW synchronized with the cathode side write pulse PK and having the potential VSA is impressed further to the anode, and a time before the anode becomes the potential VSA is prolonged. The discharge is stopped by that at least one side of the cathode side discharge maintaining pulse and the anode side discharge maintaining pulse is stopped p at least by l pulse.
