The invention relates to an assistance device with a spring for controlling a cable brought back to rest by a significant force. According to the invention it comprises, in a housing (6) through which the cable (2) passes, a pre-stressed spring means (34) arranged between a base (22) and a head (32). The base (22) is mounted so as to rotate around a stud (20) which is integral with the housing (6) provided at a distance from the cable (2) and the head (32) is integral with the cable (2) and bears on a rolling track (10) formed in the housing substantially parallel to the cable (2). The spring means (34) has a longitudinal shaft (42) passing through the stud (20), in such a way that, at rest, the longitudinal shaft (42) is substantially coincident with a perpendicular (40) to the cable (2) passing through the stud (20) while it moves away therefrom in assistance position. Preferably, the rest position is unstable, the device having two opposite assistance positions determined by a limitation of the deviation of the longitudinal shaft on either side of the perpendicular. <IMAGE>
