摘要 The light intensity modulation device (1) uses a medium with a variable transmission characteristic, inserted between the opposing end faces of two optical fibre light guides (LWL1,LWL2), respectively supplying light to and from the modulation device. Pref. each of the light guides is coupled to the modulation device via a respective polariser (P1,P2), the latter lying on opposite respective sides of a liquid crystal (LC) which is controlled by an applied electrical field, or electromagnetic field. ADVANTAGE - Simple mfr. and modulation control. Can also be used as attenuator.
