The description relates to a bright-field transparency illumination device for a microscope in which a grid disc (8) is arranged in the illumination beam path (7) to provide uniform illumination for the luminous field diaphragm (LF) for large fields and small apertures (Fig. 1) and uniform illumination for the aperture diaphragm (AP) for small fields and large apertures (Fig. 2). The grid disc (8) is a plane-parallel transparent plate having a circular grid (8) at the centre.
