The hydraulic damper, partic. for motor vehicles, has at least one first and one second oil chambers (S1,S") with at least one connecting channel (35) between the chambers and an adjustment device (37) for the cross-section of the connecting channel. The adjustment device (37) comprises an adjustment rod (46) with an end facing the connecting channel and movable to and from the channel. An eccentric, rotatably arranged cam (48) is in contact with the other end of the adjustment rod and has a rotation drive (51). The damper has a damping device (1) with a cylinder (2) and a bodywork fixture (26) at its end, and a rod (8) extends into the cylinder (2), at one end of which a piston (10) is slidably located in the cylinder (2), limiting at least one oil chamber (S1). At the other end of the damping device is an axle fixture (15) couplable to an axle of the motor vehicle. USE/ADVANTAGE - The damping forces are equally and accurately adjustable, being at all times stable.
