Apparatus for removing a contaminant from a container (10) having a liquid inventory (12) including the contaminant as a minor ingredient and having an elevated temperature at the top of the liquid inventory. A treatment vessel (20) contains a supply of particulate adsorbent (21) for the contaminant. A first conduit (24) connects the top of the container (10) with the treatment vessel (20). A second conduit (29) connects the treatment vessel (20) with the bottom of the container (10). The temperature difference between the top and bottom of liquid (12) in the container provides the driving force for continuing movement of liquid from the top of the container (10) through the first conduit (24), the treatment vessel (20) and the second conduit (29) back to the bottom of the container (10). The apparatus is particularly useful for removing PCB from retrofilled transformers containing minor quantities of PCB. |
