PURPOSE:To obtain a high strength sintered compact based on a tantalum-contg. multiple compd. by adding a small amt. of a specified metal for accelerating sintering to tantalum carbide and scattering this metal at the time of sintering. CONSTITUTION:Tantalum carbide powder is blended with powder of one or more among the carbide and nitride of Ti, Zr, Hg, V, Nb, Mo or W and a mutual solid soln. of such compds. or powder of the boride, silicide, etc., of carbon, graphite or a group IVa, Va or VIa metal of the periodic table is further added if necessary. One or more kinds of metals for accelerating sintering selected among Fe, Ni, Co, Cr and an alloy contg. them are then added to the resulting powdery blend by 0.01-3.0vol.% per 100vol.% of the blend or the blend is mixed with such metals from mixing and pulverizing media to obtain a powdery mixture. This mixture is formed into a green compact of a prescribed shape and heated to >=1,600 deg.C in <=1Torr vacuum to scatter the metals for accelerating sintering and the objective sintered compact is produced. |
