A circuit for detecting the impedance in the heart by means of a pacemaker electrode arranged in the heart ventricle comprises a current source connected to the pacemaker electrode and whose current direction may be switched over by switching means, and at least one device for measuring the voltage applied to the pacemaker electrode. A value representative of the impedance in the heart is derived from the difference between voltages applied to the pacemaker electrode at two different measurement points in time at which currents of equal intensity but of opposite direction are applied to the pacemaker electrode.
