The displacement pump (6) supplying the hydromotor (10) with hydraulic fluid in a closed circuit has a swivel lever (7) which when the drive (10) is braked can be swivelled back over the engaging components (21, 22) into the neutral position of the pump and fixed there. At least one, pref. two hydraulically operated cylinders (19, 20) which can be biased with a pressurised medium engage on the swivel lever, pref. from each side. A hydraulic medium standing under a sec. pressure can be used to brake the drive (10). USE/ADVANTAGE - Brake unit for rotary drive of upper machine carriage can be installed in existing hydraulic circuits and has stronger braking action.
