902,495. Solderable coatings for semiconductors. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE A.G. July 28, 1960 [Aug. 5, 1959], No. 26356/60. Class 41. Semi-conductors consisting of two or more of the metals Bi, Sb, Te, Se are provided with a solderable coating by cleaning electrolytically with alkali, and then electro-depositing an easily solderable metal, e.g. Fe, Ni, or Bi. After alkali treatment the semi-conductor may be treated with HNO 3 and brushed before solderable metal is applied. In examples, Bi 2 Te 3 , Bi 2 Te 3 /Bi 2 Sb 3 or a similar selenium complex, is treated after applying a resist as necessary with a solution containing caustic soda and sodium carbonate and potassium cyanide, anodically or cathodically for 10 sees., and after washing, treated with HNO 3 , washed again and immersed in a solution of (a) FeCl 2 containing a little MnCl 2 or (b) NiCl 2 and boric acid or (c) Bi 2 O 3 , perchloric acid, glue and cresol, at 60‹ to 90‹ C. and pH 1 to 2 for 15 mins. at a C.D. of 4 A.S. decimetre. A coating of 1 to 20 Á is deposited. |
