PRODUCTION OF POROUS OPTICAL FIBER PREFORM

PURPOSE:To provide the method for producing a porous optical fiber preform, enabling to produce the porous preform in a good yield without generating distortion and density irregularity. CONSTITUTION:The method for producing the porous optical fiber preform comprises extruding a plastic material containing silica as a main raw material onto the periphery of a core glass rod (41) to form a porous matrix (17), and subsequently pressing the obtained porous preform. The press treatment can be performed by arranging the porous reform in the rubber mold (13) of the mold (10) and subsequently applying an uniform pressure to the molded product with a hydrostatic press device using a pressure medium.
