PURPOSE:To carry out the O-alkylation of a compound containing aromatic hydroxyl at high selection rate and prepare an aromatic ether group by using a clay ion exchange type laminar compound of specified structural formula as a catalyst for preparing the aromatic ether group at high yield. CONSTITUTION:A compound containing aromatic hydroxyl is reacted with an alcohol group and/or an olefin group to prepare a corresponding aromatic ether group. In that case, a clay ion exchange type laminar compound of (E) a (X) b (Y4O10) (Z) is used as a catalyst (E is cation such as Ia element, IIa or the like and exchangeable with other cations, X is Li, Mg or the like, Y is Al, Fe or the like, Z is F or OH, and a=1/3-1 and b=2-3). |
