PURPOSE:To reduce communication expense and turnaround time by reducing access to a host computer. CONSTITUTION:At the time of issuing a ticket at a ticket selling terminal 11, if consultation with an FS 6 results in the cancellation of a train a passenger desires, the passenger is informed of a purport that the ticket can not be sold without accessing the host computer 2 for seat reservation. Besides, the reservation state of a reserved seat ticket is down-loaded sometimes to each station, and is stored in the reservation state distributed file 9 of the FS 6. When the purchasing request of the reserved seat ticket arises, the presence of a vacant seat is confirmed by consulting with the file. When definite time has elapsed after down-load, the presence of the vacant seat is predicted. If there is the vacant seat, the host computer 2 for seat reservation is accessed, and if there is no vacant seat, a fact that all the seats are occupied and an alternative plan are displayed on the display device of the ticket selling terminal 11. Loss expense due to the failure of prediction and the expense required for the down- load are formulated, and optimum down-loading time interval in which the expense is minimum is determined. |
