The unit consists of a body (1) in which slides a plunger (2) containing a piston at its far end (3) This plunger is hollowed out (13) and inside of it moves a regulator rod (4) whose end is anchored to the bottom end of the body (1). The outer surface of the regulator rod (4) is pre-shaped so that it forms a variable orifice (11) between it and the piston (3) to produce variable damping properties depending on the position of the plunger (2) in the body of the unit (1). The unit can be filled with oil via an orifice (6) that is sealed with a cap (8), and the stiffness of the unit can be altered by pumping air into the top chamber (19) via the orifice (18) using a bicycle pump. Use/Advantage - An oil pneumatic damping and suspension unit for the support of a bicycle saddle with variable damping whose stiffness can be altered without dismantling the unit.
