Sewing thread production - utilising electrical arc discharge to obtain the required characteristics

A process to change the characteristics of sewing thread as it is drawn at a specified speed through an installation. The installation subjects the material being treated to a spark or brief arc discharge. The appts. is also claimed. The sewing thread (21) is drawn through the installation by being wound on the reel (22). It is drawn over pins (24,25) to direct it, firstly across the immersed roller (29) which transfers an emulsion (28) to the thread. This is waterproofing, made up of fluorocarbon resin and silicon oil, which is applied at a rate of 4% by weight, when drawn at 300 metres per min. ADVANTAGE - The process is controlled and reproducible. It is clean and involves a final stage of treatment without direct contact to the sewing thread.
