The invention relates to a novel type of tool for engraving machines, comprising an oblong body (11a) provided at one end with a housing (18) for receiving the added (separate) cutter (19). The said cutter comprises a cutting edge (19a) at one end, a rear surface (23) and an intermediate surface in the form of a cylindrical body (22), which surface is truncated by an oblique flat part (24), the cross-section of the said cylindrical body (22) thinning from the said cutting edge (19). The said oblong body (11a) is provided with a housing (18) comprising a cylindrically shaped wall matching that of the cylindrical body (22), and a wall (25) inclined so as to fit over the oblique flat part (24), the surface of the said wall (25) being convex in the radial and/or longitudinal direction, so that the said added cutter (19) can be inserted and held in the said oblong body (11a) by wedging the flat part (24) in the housing (18).
