PURPOSE:To provide a tilting device which generates return to the original position without provision of any free piston. CONSTITUTION:A tilting device for a ship propelling machine comprises a cylinder 3a which is supported rotatably on either of a clamp bracket 2a and a swivel bracket 2b to serve for supporting on the hull and accommodates the working oil, a piston rod 3c which is supported rotatably on the other of them and inserted in the cylinder 3a with possibility of expansion and contraction, and a piston 3b which is fixed to the end of the piston rod 3c and partitions the inside of the cylinder 3a into a rod chamber on the rod accommodation side and a piston chamber on the non-accommodation side, wherein a gas chamber is provided to accommodate the working oil and a working gas compressed thereby and interposed in the communication path leading from the rod chamber to the piston chamber. |
