PURPOSE:To obtain a sintered compact of ceramics having high hardness, high toughness, high strength and heat crack resistance, especially a sintered compact of ceramics suitable for an intermittent cutting tool, having dissolved problems of the conventional Al2O3-based sintered compact consisting essentially of aluminum oxide. CONSTITUTION:A sintered compact of ceramics comprises 5-50wt.% one or more of hafnium oxide, zirconium oxide, hafnium oxide or zirconium oxide containing a stabilizer and a solid solution of mutual these substances, 10-40wt.% zirconium boride, <=30wt.% one or more of carbide, nitride, oxycarbide, oxynitride and a solid solution of mutual these substances and the rest of aluminum oxide. The sintered compact of ceramics has extremely improved wear resistance and break resistance, can reduce an amount of average relief to about 53-71% in the case of using as a turning tool and can raise sending by 0.08-0.12mm/rev. in the case of using as a tool for milling cutter in comparison with the conventional Al2O3-based sintered compact. |
