PURPOSE:To enable to continuously and efficiently perform the multiplicative culture of a microorganism having an ability to produce a bio-polyester and the production of the bio-polyester by controlling the carbon content and nitrogen content of a fed culture solution in an upward flow type reactor. CONSTITUTION:The bioreactor 1 equipped with a main body receiving bio- polyester-producing bacteria therein and used for producing the bio-polyester is characterized by disposing an injection port 12 capable of injecting a culture solution into the lower part of the main body, disposing a taking-out port 14 for taking out the bio-polyester-producing bacteria on the side surface of the main body, and further disposing a culture solution-discharging port 15 in the upper part of the main body. The bio-polyester-producing bacteria existing in the lower part take nutrients the culture solution and multiply, and the bio- polyester-producing bacteria existing in the upper part reduced in the concentration of nitrogen take carbon from the culture solution and produce the bio- polyester in their bodies. The raised culture solution is discharged from the discharging port 15.
