PURPOSE:To provide a catalyst capable of efficiently decomposing ethylbenzene while suppressing the loss of xylene. CONSTITUTION:The method for efficiently decomposing ethylbenzene in an 8C aromatic in the presence of a catalyst composed of a bi- or a polyvalent metallic cation-containing crystalline aluminosilicate supporting magnesium oxide and a refractory inorganic oxide supporting platinum and tin while suppressing the loss of xylene and the formation of heavy aromatic compounds.
