A domestic item of equipment has a programme selector (9) knob that has a number of programme positions that are selected by turning a knob. At the rear of the unit there is a cam element (7''). The coupling between the cam and a switch actuator lever (41) is dependent upon operation of a pushbutton (10''). The pushbutton operated on one end of the lever which is pivot (42) mounted. At the one end the lever acts against a main switch and at the other has an extension (44) that engages the cam when the pushbutton is pressed. This allows the switch to be operated according to the programmed cycle when the pushbutton is pressed. ADVANTAGE - Allows programme cycle activation by operating single pushbutton.
