A video image generator system for CRT tubes or flat display panels allows the simultaneous presentation of a number of images on the same display. The display planes (1,2) may overlap and interact. The system has a signal source (4) coupled to a control unit (5) generating horizontal (6) and vertical (7) signals for the display. A personal computer (8) with a built-in signal generator (10) also provides, via a control stage (11), vertical and horizontal control signals. Keyboard entries (9) may be made to allow additional inputs to the display to be provided. USE/ADVANTAGE - Supersedes picture-in-picture and window concepts. Uses two display planes to avoid need for buffer storage of image.
