<p>PURPOSE: To obtain an orthodontic gear comparatively small but having a sufficient strength and rigidity, by constituting its body from a polymeric material and a fiber reinforced structure wherein a circular arc-shaped wire groove has a certain peripheral surface on a reference plane approximately orthogonal to a center-to-terminal reference axis. CONSTITUTION: This orthodontic gear 20 comprises a base part 22 which is connected to a central body 24, and the central body 24 is connected to a projection 26 for anchoring use for occlusion and a projection 28 for anchoring gum. The anchoring projections 26, 28 are separated from each other by an elongated circular arc-shaped wire groove 30. The groove 30 includes a central part 31 having an approximately U-shaped peripheral surface which is approximately rectangular as viewed in the direction orthogonal to the center-to-terminal reference axis. Also, the orthodontic gear 20 is made from a a polymeric material and a long fiber reinforced structure embedded in it. The fiber reinforced structure has at least one layer including one or more extension parts where numerous filaments are juxtaposed, align and extend in a reference plane approximately orthogonal to the center-to-terminal axis.</p> |
