<p>PURPOSE:To uniformly raise the temperature of each of honeycomb heaters upstream and downstream by regulating resistance and/or heat capacity of the honeycomb heater upstream and relatively increasing value of input electric power/heat capacity of the honeycomb heater upstream. CONSTITUTION:In this multistage honeycomb heater, a plural number of honeycomb heaters consisting of conductive honeycomb structural bodies are arranged along the flow passage direction of exhaust gas. In this case, at least resistance and/or heat capacity of the honeycomb heater, at the most upstream of these honeycomb heaters, is regulated. The value of the input electric power/heat capacity of the honeycomb heater the most upstream is made larger than the value of input electric power/heat capacity of the adjacent honeycomb heater downstream. Subsequently, on the honeycomb heaters, slits 12 parallel in the through axial d direction as resistance adjusting systems. Consequently, the temperature of each of the honeycomb heaters upstream and downstream is uniformly raised.</p> |
