The side walls (1,2,3,4) form a step (8) which projects a predetermined amount (a) into the inside of the container and runs parallel to the floor plane of the container near the base. The container has a flange-like foot (7) which protrudes over the adjoining wall areas by an amount (b) which at the most is equal to the predetermined amount (a) of the step. The internal width of the container enlarges continuously upwards starting from the step (8). The walls can form further outwardly pointing steps (9,10) above the step (8). The container base and removable container lid can have conforming downwardly opening indentations. USE/ADVANTAGE - The stacking containers are prevented from jamming inside each other while the internal useful space is not restricted.
