FAULT DETECTION DEVICE ON AN OVERHEAD ELECTRIC POWER DISTRIBUTION NETWORK

A fault detection device on an overhead electric power distribution network comprises an electronic circuit (3, 4) which receives a signal representative of the homopolar voltage and a signal representative of the homopolar current of the line being monitored, said electronic circuit detecting transient changes in the homopolar current by comparing the sign of the homoplar current transient with that of the homoplar voltage transient. The homopolar current sensor consists of a coil (3) having a magnetic core (2) and positioned close to the line to be monitored (1), perpendicular thereto. The signal delivered by this coil is sent to an integrated circuit (5). The voltage sensor consists of an electric field sensor placed below the line and at a distance from it.
