PURPOSE:To obtain the catalyst and method for decomposition which converts nitrogen oxide exhausted from the combustor using solid-, liquid-, gas fuel and the engine of various kinds of automobiles, etc., to harmless nitrogen. CONSTITUTION:The catalyst consists of the calcium oxide or the magnesium oxide obtained by calcining carbonate or hydroxide of calcium or magnesium in inert gas atmosphere, the catalyst decomposes nitrogen oxide in contact with nitrogen oxide contained gas at the temp. range above 500 deg.C.
