Filtering elements 8 of a filter unit mounted on a central shaft 4 are successively immersed in adjacent radial compartments of a circular tank 1 containing liquids to be filtered and different washing solutions, passage of the element from one compartment to another being effected by a lifting mechanism synchronised with a rotating mechanism for the ring 6 on which the elements are fixed by bearings 7. The elements 8 pivot in planes radial to the ring 6. To cross a partition an element is raised by a pneumatic or hydraulic jack 13 operating a level 14 which bears against a sleeve 16. A jack pushing a pawl then advances the filter element held lifted by a cam 17 above the partition. At the end of the movement the sleeve 16 is pushed under a lever held by a damping spring and the elements resumes their filtering position within the tank. The filtrate is emptied out when the element is in its raised position. Each filter element may comprise the filtering support with fluid tight outer faces and filtering inside faces. When the deposit in the supports becomes such that the supports become solid with one another the pressure of the supports against each due to vacuum or pressure assists in drying the deposit. When the vacuum or pressure is broken a spring forces the plates apart. The apparatus may be enclosed in a casing. |
