A tray for a set of sockets of varying diameters includes an elongated, open-top, trapezoidal receptacle with an upstanding peripheral wall structure and a ferrous metal bottom wall, a flexible magnetic trip is removably disposed in the receptacle and overlies the bottom wall for magnetically retaining sockets in the receptacle. The magnetic strip has magnetic material embedded in a nonmagnetic carrier, and the magnetic material may be in spaced-apart strips. A pivoting bail handle retainer is also provided.
